Chopova Lowena Autumn/Winter 2021
Chopova Lowena is racing into Fall 2021 driven by the exploration of strength, self-expression, and connectivity through uniformity. “Right now we want to feel a sense of belonging–of being with our people,” say Emma Chopova and Laura Lowena. “There is a beautiful connectivity of being on a team or being with your friends.”
Female horse jockey kits and traditional school uniforms clash together as primary references. Schoolgirl dresses in cord, taffeta, and denim are layers with graphic cartoon mesh tops and leggings, all produced using deadstock textiles. Wrap silhouettes and rakish neckties play on the rigidity and rebellion tied to British schoolwear. A new emphasis on zip and tie fastening alongside butterfly and schoolwear buckles give the wearer the opportunity to reinterpret the Chopova Lowena codes in their own way: kilts over patterned jeans, pleated skirts worn freely with patched blouses, dresses knotted tight with dozens of bows or undone, flippant, and loose. The colours and intensity of extreme sport push against the traditionally feminine, a tension Chopova Lowena have explored since the brand launched in 2017.
Chopova Lowena continues to push tradition into new territory, fusing British and Bulgarian histories with contemporary sportswear. Vintage Bulgarian textiles continue to form the basis of the brand’s signature skirts, repurposed into utilitarian kilts with upcycled leather belts and this season, also a deadstock leather dress. Prints and graphics are drawn from historic Bulgarian materials for the brand’s largest outerwear offering of cropped fleeces in a kaleidoscope of colours and prints. Black corduroy coats with adjustable zip details counter the boldness of Chopova Lowena’s graphics, as does an expanded range of blouses in tartans, lace, and mesh.
Deadstock wool and organza hats, knotted vests, oversize bags, keychain necklaces, and silver charm earrings build on the accessories, offering new entry points into the Chopova Lowena world.
The Chopova Lowena Fall 2021 collection was produced across the United Kingdom and Bulgaria by artisans and makers of all generations, celebrating a global creativity and community.
Stand together and stand out.
